Hey everyone – long time no see!

After an extended holiday break, I’m ready to get back into action and kick off a 14-day challenge that everyone with a keyboard can participate in. I’ll also keep you posted with some announcements shortly – there’s some fun stuff happening this month.

It hasn’t truly been a break. I haven’t been creating videos for YouTube, but I did start a new batch of coaching students at the start of the year, which amounts to creating hours of video content every single week. It’s a big undertaking – an enjoyable one – but it takes a lot of time and energy!

Anyway, let’s get to the 14-day challenge.

How the 14-day challenge works:

Every single day for fourteen days, starting Saturday, February 8th, I’ll be going live on YouTube. During these live sessions, I’ll introduce the challenge specific to that day, as well as answer any questions you might have.

Then I want you to hop over to the PianoTV Facebook page and share a recording of yourself doing the challenge! I’ll put up my recordings over there as well. Let’s provide each other camaraderie and support!

Who the challenge is suitable for:

I’ve specifically designed these challenges to be doable for most students, even relative beginners. One thing I’ve noticed with coaching a variety of adult students is that there’s always room for building skills via simple exercises – and often this is more effective than trying to build skills with complicated pieces.

Why the challenge?

Flagging motivation tends to be an issue during the winter months in my studio, so I thought it would be fun for us to get out of our ruts and try something different at the piano each and every day.

I also wanted to cover ground on a variety of topics – there will be technique challenges, but also more creative challenges as well. That way, everyone should have the opportunity to go out of their comfort zones!

What kind of time commitment will the challenge require?

Very little! Most of these challenges shouldn’t take any longer than 10-15 minutes per day, so you can fit them into your regular practice schedule. The only thing that might take a while is getting a “perfect” recording – but please don’t worry about perfectionism here! This is all about getting our hands messy and having some fun, not about creating masterpieces.

Action steps:

  • Sign up for the 14-day challenge via email. I’ll send you a message every day of the challenge with details about the upcoming YouTube Live session, as well as any materials you’ll need (everything is free and will be provided to you).
  • Watch your email every day and/or keep an eye out for our posts on YouTube!
  • Participate in the challenge and share your recordings on our Facebook page. For the truly camera-shy among you, simply tell us about your experiences!
  • Share this video/post with anyone who you think might be interested in participating.

Final thoughts

One thing that will make this interesting is that I’ll be traveling for a week during the challenge. As such, the Live Sessions won’t be at the same time every day, and they certainly won’t be at the same location! One or two might even be from an airport. Another reason you’ll want to sign up and keep your eye out for my emails.

Hope you’ll join me for this challenge – it’ll be a lot of fun!
